An International Private Education at Medbury
At Medbury School we provide a safe and caring learning environment for boys aged 5 to 13, guided by strong boundaries, clearly defined requirements and exceptional peer support.
International students at Medbury School are able to improve their English language skills, learn about other diverse cultures, gain new perspectives and meet new friends whilst getting a first-rate education.
All our international students immerse themselves into our inclusive community and attain high academic results, enabling them to progress on their chosen pathway for their secondary school education and beyond.
There are many reasons and benefits for attending school outside a student's home country and at Medbury we provide a programme of study appropriate for each student.
Pastoral Care of International Students
Medbury School has agreed to observe and be bound by The Education (Pastoral Care for International Students) Code of Practice 2021. This code is a guarantee of standards of student care and supervision, teaching and recruiting as well as providing a 'complaints protocol' for dissatisfied students or parents. Copies of the code are available on request from the school or from the NZQA Website.
Immigration and Visas
Full details of immigration requirements, advice on rights to employment in New Zealand while studying, and reporting requirements are available from Immigration New Zealand, and can be viewed on their website at www.immigration.govt.nz/new-zealand-visas.
Health Services and Insurances
Most international students are not entitled to publicly funded health services while in New Zealand. If you receive medical treatment during your visit, you may be liable for the full costs of that treatment. Full details on entitlements to publicly funded health services are available through the Ministry of Health on their website www.moh.govt.nz
The Accident Compenstation Corporation (ACC) provides accident insurance for all New Zealand citizens, residents, and temporary visitors to New Zealand, but you may still be liable for all other medical and realted costs. Find more information at www.acc.co.nz.
International students (including group students) must have appropriate and current medical and travel insurance while in New Zealand.
2024 International Tuition Fees
All fees are per year and GST (goods and service tax) inclusive.
Years 1 and 2: $34,830
Years 3 and 4: $36,441
Years 5 to 8: $38,772
Please note that International tuition fees for the year must be paid in full before an ‘offer of place’ is issued.
Medbury School Foundation Voluntary Levy
$370 – maximum of $740 per family
Disbursements
Disbursements are charges for activities that are not covered by tuition fees. These are payable on receipt of the statement/tax invoice and no later than the 20th of the month following the invoice e.g. January charge payable by 20th February.
Disbursements cover items and activities such as stationery, school trips, school camps, sports costs, music, drama, other extra-curricular activities, after school care, visiting performers and other incidentals which relate directly to your son’s activities at school.
Payment of Accounts
Disbursements are payable on receipt of the statement/tax invoice and no later than the 20th of the month following the invoice e.g. January charge payable by 20th February.
Payment of disbursements by direct debit through the banking system is compulsory unless there are exceptional circumstances and the Medbury School Trust Board has approved alternative payments.
Any payments made by credit card will incur a 2.5% card loading charge.
Overdue Accounts
The School is not in a position to provide credit and the Trust Board policy in respect of overdue accounts is as follows:
- Disbursements are considered to be overdue if the account is not paid by the due date shown on the statement.
- Where disbursements have not been paid within one month of the due date for payment, the Trust Board may request that the boy be withdrawn from the School.
- If disbursements for the previous school year have not been paid by the commencement of the next school year, the boy concerned will not be permitted to commence Term 1 of the new school year.
- Disbursements that are not paid by the due date will incur a late payment penalty fee of 5%.
- Interest at the rate of 10% per annum may be charged on overdue accounts from the date the payment is due until the disbursements are paid.
- If a payment is dishonoured an administration fee of $100 (GST inclusive) shall apply.
