Traditionally all boys from Year 3 to 8 are expected to commit to a Medbury school sporting activity, either mid-week and/or Saturday during Terms 1 and 4, (this excludes Cricket and Tennis Coaching options), and on a Saturday during Terms 2 and 3. It is really important that once a boy has joined a team, he accepts his responsibilities as a team member.

Please read the information below from the Sports Director, which should answer any questions you may have, before registering your son for any of the sporting options available at Medbury.

Does my son have to play sport on a Saturday in Terms 1 and 4?
All boys in Years 3 to 8 are expected to commit to a school sporting activity, either mid-week and/or Saturday throughout Terms 1 and 4.
Please note that if there is enough interest we will offer cricket as a Saturday sporting option for Year 2.
(This excludes Cricket and Tennis Coaching options).

If my son is a cricketer does he need to play cricket for Medbury on a Saturday?
Your son is expected to play cricket on a Saturday for Medbury, unless he signs up for the Year 7 & 8 Wednesday 20/20 internal competition.

Does my son have to play cricket for Medbury if he is already in another club team?
If your son is a new boy to Medbury in Term 1 he may already be in a cricket team from Term 4.
He can continue playing for his team until the end of Term 1, however, he will not be eligible to play for Medbury at inter-school fixtures.

How can my son play Interclub Tennis if he does not wish to play cricket?
The Canterbury Tennis season began in Term 4 and ends at the end of Term 1.
Therefore, your son can join a Tennis Club at the beginning of Term 4. This will be considered a Medbury sport.

Are there any other options for playing tennis in Term 1?
Please read the information Tennis coaching and trialling for the Top 8 Tennis Team.

Can my son be placed on the school tennis ladder for the Top 8 Tennis Team and also be in a top cricket team for Medbury, or vice a versa?
No, Boys who trial for the Top 8 Tennis Team and also want to play cricket for Medbury on Saturday, can do so, but will not be eligble to play for the top cricket teams. Boys who trial for Saturday cricket for the school, are not eligible to be placed on the tennis ladder for the Top 8 tennis Team.

Does my son have to play sport on a Saturday in Terms 2 and 3?
All boys in Years 3 to 8 are expected to commit to Saturday sport throughout the winter season.
Please note that if there is enough interest we will offer rugby as a Saturday sporting option for Year 2.

If my son plays rugby, football and hockey, does he need to play for Medbury on a Saturday? Can my son trial for rugby, football and hockey?
He is expected to play for Medbury on a Saturday and he can only trial for one of these winter sports.

Can a Year 6 boy trial for a 1st team?
Yes, by invitation from the Director of Sport and Sports Coordinator for that particular sport.

Are there other sports offered.
The following sports are also offered at Medbury School.

Terms 1 & 4: Touch Rugby, Summer Hockey, Water polo, Polo, Fencing, and Karate.
Terms 2 & 3: Basketball, Fencing, and Karate.

Coaching Academies - extra coaching is offered in:
Terms 1 & 4: Tennis and Cricket.
Term 2: Rugby, Football and Hockey. (I will be asking your son which winter sport he is doing during Term 1).
(Information on Rugby, Football and Hockey Coaching Academies will be sent home mid Term 1).
