This week, Medbury hosted Saint Kentigern College, Auckland, in a traditional exchange. Although the weather looked like it would ruin the exchange, it held off, and we got some great matches against a strong Saint Kentigerns. Medbury fought hard and played with great spirit, but Saint Kentigerns were too strong, convincingly winning both the tennis and the cricket.

The boys were excited to be billeting the Saint Kentigern boys and we are lucky to have a rematch against St Kentigern’s in Term 4, where we travel to Auckland for our summer tour.

A few weeks ago we also played matches against Cathedral Grammar. The day dawned grey and chilly but that didn’t put off the boys who were raring to go!

The cricket team consisted of the boys who for Medbury 2 Medbury 3. Medbury batted first in greasy conditions at Elmwood Park and posted a competitive score of 126 off the 30 overs. With Cathedral Grammar 5 batters back in the sheds for not many the Medbury boys could be forgiven for thinking the result was already complete but credit to the Cathedral opener who scored 83 and forced our death bowlers to bowl line and length when the game was on the line. A great tight game played in good spirits by both teams. Credit to Theo Lutton who 'played the game’ by umpiring all 60 overs with his arm in a sling having broken his arm the night before!

The Medbury Top 8 competed against Cathedral Grammar in our annual exchange at the Elmwood Tennis Club. With a strong Top 8 team this year, they were able to win all doubles and singles matches. Some standout players were our current number 1 and number 2, Tom Dawson and Louis Tian, who both won their doubles together and singles in straight matches.
